Engaged with H Stern

I came back to work on Monday from a week’s holiday to find a beautiful tome on my desk called The Brazilian Issue, published by Luxure magazine. The 165 pages are filled with features covering the Brazilian luxury market and one particular piece caught my eye: an interview with Roberto Stern, head of jeweller H Stern. I love H Stern – they made my beautiful engagement ring.

I was particularly interested when Roberto said: "My father was a man who loved stones and the pieces he created were all about the gem, not the design of the jewellery. When I came on board, I changed that."
Indeed he did, collaborating with the likes of legendary Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. You see, as much as I love my amethyst – I wanted a beautiful, coloured stone rather than a traditional diamond – the H Stern ring is much more than that. I think the setting is beautiful; it’s elegant and quite architectural. It gives the stone more prominence.
The article also states that “the magic of the H Stern pieces is that they are crafted at the headquarters [in Rio] by skilled artisans”. That’s also true. It took almost two months for my ring to be ready, after several to-ing and fro-ing (and many amethysts, tourmalines and smoky quartz) between the London store in Harrods and the Brazilian HQ. It was worth the wait.
