Fashion Rio: my picks of the week

Despite being in lovely, sunny Florence last week looking at men and their clothes (for professional reasons – I was at trade fair Pitti Uomo), there was somewhere else I wanted to be: Rio. The city’s fashion week, Fashion Rio, was taking place at the same time and the collections looked amazing. A combination of the instant access the internet grants us to almost anything and Brazil’s status as a country to watch, Fashion Rio is becoming an important event on the fashion calendar. It still has a long way to go to reach the dizzy heights of New York, London, Paris and Milan, but our seemingly never-ending obsession with novelty (as soon as you’ve bought anything, an “upgrade” becomes available) and discovering the next big thing, means that those traditional fashion cities sound almost, well, old-fashioned. Here are some of my favourite collections: (Lucas Nascimento) (Printing) (Maria Bonita Extra) (Coven) (Alessa)
